Hosting a World Cup is a huge task for any country to handle. And, with so many different teams playing, the action will have to take place in many different cities around South Africa.
Overall, there are ten different football venues in nine different cities that will be used for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. They will all be used in the opening rounds, but as the tournament goes on, the locations will be consolidated. Here are the nine cities and the venues located there:
Johannesburg: Johannesburg is the city that will have two venues that football will be played at. There will be football at the “Soccer City” venue and at the Ellis Park Stadium.
Durban: Durbans will have football at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Cape Town: Cape Town will have its World Cup activities at Cape Town Stadium.
Port Elizabeth: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will be the home of the World Cup activities in Port Elizabeth.
Bleomfontein: Bloemfontein will have football played at the “Free State Stadium”
Polokwane: Peret Mokaba Stadium will be the venue for World Cup action in Polokwane.
Neispruit: Mbombela Stadium will host World Cup games in the city of Neispruit.
The World Cup has been held all over the world in many of the world’s greatest cities. Besides the Olympics, the World Cup is one of the most prestigious sporting events that any city can hope to hold. How will South Africa do?
